Starting woes
20 JunNews today that Tim will be arriving from Vienna at London Heathrow on Saturday night, so the weekend of camping has been cut back to just a Friday night. Tim has successfully obtained his Tajik visa. This morning I also picked my passport up from the Ukrainian Embassy, which is my last visa completed. Fingers crossed I don’t lose my passport between now and the start of the rally!
Last night I drove the car from our workshop to London without too many problems, except that it still won’t start when it’s hot (which can be quite inconvenient in the London traffic!). I’ve traced this to further issues within the ignition switch and it won’t be a problem anymore (that’s what I thought last time on the 22/5). This time the ignition circuit was activated with the key in the ignition position, but would de-activate when the key was turned to start. The starter would crank the engine, but there was no spark to ignite the fuel. The clue to the problem was that when the key was released from the start position, the engine would sometimes fire, as the ignition circuit would be reactivated, and even though the starter had stopped, the engine would still be rotating under its own inertia.
A sign of things to come? Attempting to fix the SJ’s starting woes.
