Loose ends

19 Jun

Exactly one month until the rally starts!

The tests to the engine from yesterday were one of the last remaining jobs on the current vehicle ‘to do’ list. I’ve added a list of the work completed on the vehicle page.

Today was spent trying to tidy a few loose ends. I secured the bull bar, and strengthened the mounting of the front bumper. The existing front bumper mounts are on their last set of corroded legs. I also fitted a voltage inverter purchased on Ebay, for a never to be repeated bargain of 8 pounds. This converts 12V from the car battery to 240V for low current mains appliances, for example battery chargers for cameras. I had a vision of being stuck in the wilderness after someone plugs an electric jug into the socket, and it melts the car’s wiring together, so I’ve wired it independently of the rest of the electrics.

The engine is still leaking oil profusely from the rocker cover, so I’ve had one last go at making it seal, and it seems to have worked.

All going to plan I’ll be driving the car tomorrow evening for a weekend of camping with my girlfriend.
