Czech us out!

20 Jul

Up at 6:30 and straight to the service station for a Bratwurst sausage! Mmmmmm

Rise and shine!

From there it was an all day push to Klenova Castle in the Czech Republic. This is about 50km west of Prague, just over the German border. There was a lot of traffic jams and progress was tedious, particularly as we passed Nuremberg. There have been a few broken down Mongol cars here and there, but all of the ones we have seen have continued in the rally. I cut my finger trying to retrieve a knife from the luggage to cut Joyce’s fruit cake, which turned out to be pre-cut!

At about 6pm we arrived. We only have a massive map showing the whole of Western Europe, so trying to find a castle in rural Eastern Europe wasn’t that easy. Then it was off to the knights and wenches party, the 3 of us dressed in costumes made by Gillian Carey, including front and rear armour, shoulder pads, paper mache helmets and Mongolmania logos. Stephen carried a shield, Tim the sworde, and me the horse (complete with clopping coconuts). Unfortunately we couldn’t live up to our costumes and we were asleep by midnight.

some lesser dressed, but equally amusing compatriots

The castle and the party

Also unfortunate, was the fact the fly had blown off my tent while we were at the party. This ma have been caused by me being a little lazy about putting the guy ropes on. There had been a massive storm, and my tent had become a swimming pool. Submerged in it was my sleeping bag, my mattress and my pillow! I spent the night wrapped in tarpaulins! Fortunately my sleeping bag wasn’t wet through, and I was warm enough.

The car is running as well now as it was when we left the UK. We have a minor exhaust leak, a low idle (which we fixed this afternoon), and the cigarette lighter is broken (courtesy of some sloppy work by the team electrician, me).
